Jack L. Smyre, PE, AICP – Principal
Jack founded The Design Response in 2001 as a land planning, zoning entitlement, and urban design firm with an identity gleaned from his personal city/county government, land surveying, civil engineering, and planning experience.
As a nationally certified planner and NC registered professional engineer, combined with rodman-to-partner land surveying experience, Jack brings a unique professional skill set, extensive knowledge base, and a multi-disciplined strategic approach to land development projects.
Skilled at navigating complex regulatory and political review processes, Jack also frequently recognizes multiple opportunities during the life of a design project for clients to minimize risks and maximize rewards.
With over 30 years of local experience successfully guiding development projects through political and regulatory review processes in the greater Triangle area, Jack previously served as planning director at McAdams for well over a decade before joining Kimley-Horn in 1996 as a practice builder with an established planning practice.
